Hey, yo. If I can be serious for a minute. Oh, yeah. Acknowledge me. Hey, what's up, Mark's Mafia? It's your boy Primo, back in the building for another shot of Cheap Pops with Primo. Where the vibes are smooth, the takes can be spicy. In the pop, well, you know it's always cheap. So sit back, vibe out, and let's get into it. Alright, so... Welcome to another episode of Cheap Pops with Primo. Before we do that, let me give a little bit of a promo here for the pod. Sit Down Marks Podcast, we did release two episodes last week, episodes 156 and 157. So 156, Homegrown Wrestling with Stumpy. 157, WrestleMania Review. That released on Thursday night. It was live, Friday night, audio everywhere. So go check them out now. They are available right now. So go check those out. Alright, we got that part done. Let's talk about, as DB would say, let's talk about what we're going to talk about, right? Today on Cheap Pops with Primo, we're going to talk about something I've actually been thinking about a lot recently, even before WrestleMania. Actually, it has zero to do with WrestleMania. I've just been thinking about it for about a month now. Wrestlers that I once hated, but now love. Wrestlers that I once hated, but now love. I'll give you guys a second to dwell on that. Give you guys to think about maybe a wrestler that you once hated that now love. Maybe you already know. I'm going to give you guys three wrestlers today that I once hated, but now love. First wrestler on that list has got to be Triple H. So, I had a love-hate relationship with Triple H as a kid. I started off, one of the very first things I witnessed as an early wrestling fan was DX with Triple H. I loved that as a young child. But then, in my teens, we had this period of time between 2002 and 2005. Maybe even 03 to 05. No, it was 02 to 05. I was 13 to 16 years old. Very impressionable age. And we had something called the Triple H Reign of Terror. So, those of you out there that know, you know how terrible that was as far as like... It made you absolutely despise Triple H. That's peak Evolution days, which... I love Revolution now, but let's go into why I didn't like it then. Then I was 13, between 13 and 16 when this was all happening. So like I said, my teenage years, I hated Triple H. He always had the title. I remember when Bischoff just handed him the title. You guys remember that? He was always in the opening segments giving these super long-ass promos, telling us how awesome he was. He was just super smug. He was always super dastardly during this time. It was absolute, like... Well, he was doing his job. He was doing everything right. I mean, to make me hate him as a teenager at that time, I did not like him. I wanted other people to beat him so bad. But it just wasn't happening. It seemed like everything... Remember, I don't know, less than 10 years ago now, maybe when they were pushing Roman Reigns down our throat? Well, back then, the Reign of Terror, it wasn't... I don't know if it... I wasn't grown then, so maybe, I don't know, but it didn't seem as obvious that they were pushing Triple H down our throat, more as he was forcing himself... to be on our TV screens every single time, almost always as the champion. It was like that three-year span there where he was always champion. He was always burying somebody. He had that golden shovel. He was just scooping dirt and burying souls, not like The Undertaker, but you know what I mean. But I came around to, as I got older, I was like, damn. I respect the game. I respect the cerebral assassin. I respect how hard... When you look at this man, you realize how much damn work he puts into it. It's pretty obvious with where he's at now, as far as what he's doing with the company now. You know, he's the big dog. He's not literally the big dog, but you know what I'm saying. He's in charge. So... I completely did a 180 on that as I got older, and I realized... Well, you know, that Reign of Terror, while it was kind of shitty as a teenager, I mean, he worked his ass off, so maybe he kind of deserved it. But at the time, I did not appreciate it. I mean, it did give me things like, You know, also as time has gone on, he's evolved. You know, the reunion with DX opened up his comedic side a bunch back in 06. And then from then on, you know, he's gone on to grow older and, you know, have funnier things and more open about being funny on screen. You know, you've seen him dance with the New Day. You've seen him do the news segment. You know what I'm saying? Nothing like a good news giggle. Yeah, that one. So I'm just saying he's not just the cerebral assassin, the game anymore. He's a whole lot more than that. Let's get to the second person. Second wrestler that I. Has similar situation here. I loved him early on. What's funny is I wasn't scared of. This wrestler. The whole time he had the mask on. Now, I know you guys know where I'm going now. I wasn't scared of Kane the whole time he had the mask on. In fact, I thought he was so awesome. But then he unmasked in 2003. And admittedly, I was like 13 or 14. That's the first time Kane terrified the absolute shit out of me. And I did not like him. I was like, oh my God. It wasn't just the... The hideous haircut that he had when he pulled the mask off. But it was also... I remember when he... I can still remember when he took the mask off and he delivered the most ferocious chokeslam to RVD. He sent him straight to hell. So... And then he lit Jim Ross on fire. He was doing that crazy... rivalry with Shane McMahon that I will always remember where he put jumper cables on Shane McMahon's testicles when he was tied up to the ring post that I ended up obviously you know getting over that and I Kane's one of my favorite of all time I love Kane I love everything about him and also right before he took off the mask I loved Kane and RVD like that was a great I thought it was a good tag team. And no, I mean, like I said, the whole taking off the mask was a shocker to me as a kid. I was just like, oh my gosh, I couldn't wrap my head around it. It actually, because remember he would come out with a towel on his head. He would be in shackles being escorted out. And he was just berserk. Like he was uncontrollable. Like once they took the shackles, it was almost like, I remember because they would take the shackles off and then it was like, oh man, once they took those shackles off, nobody knew what Cain was going to do. It was unpredictable from that point on, from a viewer standpoint. But obviously, once again, I came around to loving Cain. Both masked and unmasked. I definitely prefer them with the mask. Unmasked Kane and Corporate Kane probably are not my favorite iterations of Kane. But I will say that unmasked Kane in WrestleMania 20, when Undertaker returned, I do like that version. It's cool. But you guys can't tell me that you guys weren't shook just a little bit. When he took that mask off. And he lit Jim Ross on fire. My God. So, let me get to the third and final wrestler. And this one, I might have hated this one more than any of them. And hate's a strong word. I don't like to use that word. But I may have disliked this wrestler more than any of them. Definitely. I was not happy with him. I was an adult at this point. I was in the military at the time, so I was grown and out of the house. But what happened was, the year is 2009. What happened in 2009, WWE folks? My favorite wrestler of my whole life. up to that point was on the run of his career and he won the WWE Championship and also the World Heavyweight Championship it's just like when Jeff Hardy had that year in 2009 and he was on fire I was living my best life I was stationed in Greenland it was great now You guys know who I'm talking about. Now, if you don't already, I'm about to let you know. I'm going to read you this story. The story comes from Reddit. Somebody actually posted this. What's funny, they posted this about a month ago. They say, I have to confess that I can never get myself to like CM Punk solely because of the storyline reason of how he beat Jeff Hardy in the 2009 Loser Leaves WWE Steel Cage match. Yes, it's stupid, but it is what it is. Yes, it's a dumb reason, and naive kid me really thought wrestling was the real thing, and me being a Jeff Hardy fan made it all worse. I had such a seething hatred for CM Punk ever since then that I actually could never forgive him. Summer of Punk came and went, the pipe bombs, the title wins, the reigns, the retirements, the returns. Nothing matters. Nothing really mattered because petty me could move on from a 16-year-old storyline. He's still the evil heel to me. I physically cannot root for CM Punk because he defeated and humiliated my childhood favorite. Now, this Redditor's name has been deleted, but I was right there with them as far as how I felt about CM Punk when he beat Jeff Hardy and forced him to leave WWE. I couldn't believe it. I couldn't believe that Jeff Hardy's... Awesome run was over now. I mean, obviously we knew, we know in real life, uh, shortly after that, what all came out as far as, um, Jeff's personal life, but that, that aside, you know, as a wrestling fan, I was so pissed off at punk that this ever happened. So, and he was the one, he was just so smug about it and, you know, cause he's the, he does the straight edge thing. So he's better than you. And, What do you guys think about that? I thought that at the time, I would never, ever, ever like CM Punk again because up to that point, before that year, I was cool with him. I liked him when he came in as part of the ECW New Blood and then the Survivor Series match and just seeing him here and there, I liked what I was seeing. And I did grow to love him afterwards. I grew to love him after that. I don't know when, but it had to have been around the pipe bomb, I guess. So... I think that CM Punk eventually won me over, and I became a freaking... At one time, I was a massive fan of CM Punk's. I was wearing the t-shirt and everything, so I... He definitely did win me over. I wasn't like this guy that I just read the story about where I never got over it, but I was able to get over it and then end up being a huge fan of CM Punk, even though he did what he did to Jeff Hardy in 2009. So there's that. Those are the three wrestlers that come to mind when I think of wrestlers that I once hated, but now love.
